Dancin' in the Streets

RULES & INFORMATION

Studio directors should use their best judgement when choosing a level for their entries, since no competition could possibly know how many hours or years a child has danced or the extent of their competition experience. Please take into consideration their overall technique, skillset, performance quality and style when choosing the appropriate entry level. Judges have the ability to adjust the level of a routine at their discretion should an entry be misplaced. Our two level divisions that we offer are the following:

-BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE DIVISION

-ADVANCED DIVISION

All ages are as of January 1, 2024. For duet/trios, groups, lines, and productions, the average age of all dancers will determine the age range. (For average ages with decimals, we drop the decimal. Example: Average age calculates to 8.8, it will compete in the 8 year old division) Dancers may be required to present proof of age in the form of a birth certificate if a protest regarding age occurs.

PETITE AGES 8 & UNDER

JUNIOR – AGES 9-12

TEEN – AGES 13-15

SENIOR – AGES 16-19

ADULT – AGES 20+

If an Adult (Age 20+) is in a duo/trio or group routine with younger dancers, the lowest age category they can fall in is the Senior Division.

The division placement of an entry is determined by the number of dancers who actually perform that entry on the day of the competition, regardless of the number of dancers who were originally entered. An entry that changes division during the competition or is unable to perform within its scheduled division time may be adjudicated only.

All level soloists may enter as many as three regional solo routines to compete for the regional “Street Dancer” Title. An additional title score based on the dancer’s overall performance, personality, entertainment skills, execution and technique is taken into consideration in addition to the adjudication score. Each title winner will receive a custom plaque, a Dancin’ In The Streets title jacket, a crown, and a free solo entry and free title entry to our Nationals that year.

A panel of 3 highly qualified judges will score all routines. All judging decisions are final. Scoresheets will be uploaded to studio directors through DanceBUG at the end of competition weekend. Dancin’ In The Streets additionally provides verbal critiques online for each routine provided by Video Judge within a few days after the completion of the event, where you can watch your dance and listen to the judges’ comments at the same time. Dancers will be adjudicated against a point system that is broken down into the following categories:

Each entry will receive a custom street sign depicting their adjudication score.

An overall high score trophy will be awarded to each highest scoring 1st place routine from each division and age group. An overall acrylic street sign will be awarded to the 2nd–10th place highest scoring routines from each division and age group. Entries in the Parent category compete to win a traffic cone trophy that is awarded to the highest scoring parent dance of the weekend.

Each judge has a car horn buzzer in front of them at their table. If they see a dance that was entertaining and they want to see it perform again, you will hear the car horn beep at the end of your routine. Other Dancin’ In The Streets staff members also have the ability to press the car horn for dances they enjoyed as well, so you may hear one of us call out to the judges to hit it for us!

Dances that were chosen for this get to come back the final night of competition to compete these routines again at our Entertainment Challenge. We will only announce our top 3 most entertaining routines. These top 3 routines will all receive free entries for that dance to our Nationals and will also automatically be entered into our National Entertainment Challenge. The 1st place winner will also get to take home our giant 6 foot light-up trophy!

All dancers chosen for this are also able to watch from the audience if they are performance ready to see the other routines perform and they will be called back by our emcee to check in 2 numbers before. This is a chance to cheer on all studios and have fun!
